Shirley A. Nelson, age 89 of Ridgeway, peacefully passed away on January 17, 2025, at Mineral Point Heath Services. Shirley was born on December 3, 1935, to George and Ruby (Buckingham) Tempest in Dodgeville.
Shirley's love of her life was Norbert "Bubby" Nelson. They married in the early 1950s and together raised four children. After Bubby's passing on Easter Sunday 1976, Shirley spent her time focusing on her kids and friends.
Shirley was a card with the greatest sense of humor and the best belly laughs—strongly believing laughing was the best medicine. If you didn't know Shirley well, one would think she was a very serious person...and she was when she wasn't laughing. Even through her laughter, everyone knew Shirley still ruled the roost and what she said went.
Shirley's love for her family is well known. She especially loved cooking for them. Everyone knew noon on Sundays was the family meal, and they often hoped she'd also make her heavy cakes that everyone loved.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bubby; children: Christine Tempest, Barbara Keast, and Eddie Nelson; grandchildren: Kevin "Pud" Tempest, Melanie Reeson, and Tammy Keast; and siblings: Dorothy Komplin, George Tempest Jr, and Beverly Bushee.
Shirley is survived by her son Ray, five grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Dodgeville. Online condolences may be made at www.houckfuneralhomes.com.
