Sheriff comments on vehicle theft, assaut on officer

A North Freedom man went on a vehicle theft rampage then assaulted a law enforcement officer while in custody.

His actions prompted the following statement from Iowa County Sheriff Michael Peterson.

“The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office is committed to maintaining the safety and well-being of our community and supporting the dedicated individuals who serve to protect it. Today, I want to address a serious incident involving inmate Niles Cox and highlight the courage and professionalism demonstrated by our staff....
