Belmont runs past Dodgers in non-conference contest

When the Division 5 girls basketball rankings came out this week Belmont was sitting in fifth place.

Monday night they played like the best team in the division as they swarmed past visiting Dodgeville 65-16.  The Lady Braves cruised to a 41-8 halftime lead and rolled to the win in the non-conference match-up.

Marly McGraw was Dodgeville’s scoring leader with five points.  

Kaci Riechers and Morgan Freeman both had 15 points for Belmont.  Jaelyn Leitzinger added 12 and Carsyn Ramaker 11,

"Belmont did a really nice job of playing with intensity and executing what they wanted to do,” said Dodgeville coach Hayden Hardyman. “We needed to do a better job with our execution, as we turned the ball over way too much and allowed easy shots due to not moving our feet.”

The Dodgers face another ranked team tonight in Prairie du Chien, ranked sixth in Division 3. 

“Thursday, we have another strong opponent in Prairie Du Chien, but we will look to correct our mistakes from Monday and be more prepared for the upcoming conference game," said Hardyman.
