Along The Ad Routes

We received a renewal for the Dodgeville Chronicle and note from Mary (Boldt) Tygum who lives in Monroe. She is a classmate of brother Pat. She said: “Dear Pat & Mike, Please find enclosed my check for $52.00 for a one year subscription to the Chronicle. Thank you for continuing to publish the Chronicle. You have a good staff as well as folks who contribute pictures and articles. I especially like Pat’s short stories, Mike’s Along the Ad Routes and the Spotlight.” Mary

Our New Year’s Eve found Pat and me along with Shelly and Ryan and Lauri with their kids going to Dodger Bowl, a place we’ve gone several years now. It’s a good spot with a salad bar and dessert table to go along with the entree!

New Year’s Day I slept in until around 9:00 a.m. before heading to the office for a couple of hours. Then I went home and pretty much watched football the rest of the day. The Arizona State/Texas game was something. Arizona State came back from two touchdowns down (16 points) and tied it in regulation. Then Texas had to score on 4th down and long to get to a 2nd overtime and won it in the end on an interception near the goal line.

We had quite the experience at our Saturday morning breakfast. We decided to head to Fennimore to Friederick’s, a place we had been to several times before. It’s on the corner of Highways 18 and 61. It was Bob, Terry, me, Tom and Potsie heading out at 7:30 in Tom’s vehicle. Dewey was in Indiana and Dave was recovering from achilles surgery. Four of us had omelettes with Potsie choosing the3 special, sausage, eggs, hash browns and toast. It was all very good. There were two other groups there. Our waitress was Poppy. Other than hiding in the back room from us (probably on purpose) when we were looking for coffee once she did a great job. We had two more refills of coffee and I was going to ask her if she was a local and more of her life history when she came to the table and said we’d have to leave. I thought maybe we did something wrong, but she said there was a gas leak so they had to evacuate the building. A group had just come in and had sat down, so they were the first ones out because we still had to pay. When we were heading down the street we noticed that group going into Timothy’s, another breakfast restaurant. We didn’t hear any explosion when we were heading ot of town. That was a good sign!

It hasn’t been released yet, but a couple of employees of Walnut Hollow Farm in Dodgeville said the business was going to close its doors March 31, 2025. This year marks the 53rd anniversary that was founded by Dave Ladd and family.

Today, Thursday, January 9, is National Law Enforcement Day. Each year, we will call our nation's citizens to action in support of law enforcement. Those citizens who appreciate law enforcement and are discouraged about the negative attention being given to law enforcement are encouraged to take time on January 9th to show their support.
