William J. (Bill) Blume, age 77 of Mineral Point, Wisconsin and formerly of Colesburg, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 3, 2025. Bill was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania on January 18, 1947 to the late Ronald V. and Dorothy (Karas) Blume of Colesburg.
Bill attended Edgewood-Colesburg community schools and later married the love of his life, Phyllis (Walters) Blume. The couple was married for 57 years before Bill’s passing. While Bill worked at John Deere early in his working career, and later, in retirement, at Lands’ End and the Town of Dodgeville Recycling Center, his passion was farming and junking (recycling metal). He enjoyed farm life, working the fields, tending to the livestock, working on equipment, and being outside until his retirement in 2010. In retirement, Bill continued junking. He attended every farm and household sale that he could, bidding on metal that he could clean and put on his next load-or add to a pile waiting until the prices came up. In the weeks leading up to his passing, he was stripping copper wire and loading motors to sell. Bill worked every day of his 77 years on this earth. Keeping busy and working hard gave him immense pleasure.
Bill is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three children Michael (Sarah) Blume of Platteville, Wisconsin, David (Catherine) Blume of Dodgeville, Wisconsin and Sarah (Randy) Loomis of Mineral Point, Wisconsin; his grandchildren Brandon, Amie, Breanna, Megan, Steven, Haile, Jaxcyn, Devin, Caitlyn, Emma, Kyle and Kane; his great grandchildren Charity, Connor, Aria, Carter, Easton, Aubrey, Case and Baylee; his brothers John (Joyce) Blume of Colesburg and Randy Blume of Hazelton, Iowa.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lizbeth Blume, a brother, Ron Blume, of Epworth, Iowa and a son, Steven, in infancy.
Bill’s family extends their sincere gratitude to the exceptional staff at Upland Hills Heath in Dodgeville for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Danielle, who was extraordinary during Bill’s stay.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Bill’s birthday, Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME, 400 Grace Street, Dodgeville, Wisconsin 53533.
A private family burial will be at the Brown Cemetery in Colesburg at a later date.
