Martin (Marty) McGrath, age 94, of Dodgeville, the McGrath family is saddened to announce the passing of their father. Marty passed away in his sleep peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025, with family at his side. Marty was married to Juanita McGrath for 50 years, who preceded him in 2021.
Marty was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Mabel Francis Burke and Martin McGrath Sr. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was later sent to Korea. While in Korea he was injured by a mortar round and carried a piece of that shell in his neck for the rest of his life. After being discharged Marty attended college at the Orange County College for livestock husbandry and was recognized several times for his dedication to the profession by the Young Farmers of America. He worked in several different industries from law enforcement to insurance, to managing multiple convenience stores throughout his life. He moved to Colorado for a short time, where he became a Bronco’s fan. He eventually settled back in the Dodgeville area and remained there for many years.
Marty was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korea War, and received the Purple Heart during his service. He was very proud of that service and was always found wearing his Purple Heart Veteran hat when out in the village.
Marty is survived by his adult children, Karen (Allan) Angeloff, Stacy McGrath, and Martin C. McGrath, his grandchildren Tabea Hodges (Blaine), Julian McGrath, Kaya Thompson (Ryan), Adam Angeloff, Kendal Snyder (Miles), and his grandchildren Finley Hodges, Dawson Hodges and Aria Snyder.
Marty will be buried at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia later this year.
