Gort, Marcia Rae

Marcia Rae Gort, age 75 of Dodgeville, WI, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from cancer.

Marcia was born on August 25, 1949 in Mineral Point, WI at St. Joe’s Hospital. She lived with her parents, older brother, identical twin sister, and younger brother on a farm in Jonesdale, WI. After graduating from Mineral Point High School in 1967, she completed the City College of Cosmetology beauty school in Madison, WI and worked in a beauty shop in Hollandale, WI. 

She married Louie Gort in 1969 and they built a life together on a farm in Hollandale with their four kids. Marcia started working for Walmart in 1985 where she worked as a department manager in cosmetics, health and beauty, and pharmacy for many years. She retired in 2021. Marcia loved spending time with her family, including her eight grandchildren, and her many friends from Walmart and around the area. She was an avid crafter who, over the years, created ceramics, scrapbooks, junk journals, and decorations for her home and yard. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louie Gort;  parents, Chuck and Mary Alice Ley; sister, Marge Sherwin, and niece, Terri Ley. 

She is survived by her brothers Bob (Leotta) Ley, Randy (Arlene Sommers) Ley; children and grandchildren, Janice (Chad) Sherven (Matthew, Josh, Joey, and Nate), Steve (Amy) Gort (Elise and Maya), Kevin Gort, and Jeff (Jill) Gort (Alexander and Dexter).

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Hollandale at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center or the Upland Hills Health Foundation.
