Along The Ad Routes

by Mike Reilly

So, all of a sudden it’s SNOW time! There were a bunch of time changes in sporting events and some cancelations Friday and Saturday when we got 3-5” of that white stuff! Saturday wrestling tournaments in Dodgeville and Mineral Point may’ve started a little late due to busses not making it there very fast Saturday morning. I know the scanner was very busy with some slide offs and the road crews keeping in touch with each other as to where they were plowing!

I shoveled a path in front of the Chronicle office Saturday morning around 7:00 and then nephew Ryan and great-nephew Grant finished it later on around 10:00. It was still snowing but not as heavy. After doing the Chronicle, they went to my house. Grant has a snowblower, so it went pretty fast. Me, I’m still in the shoveling age!

Oh, and after Ryan and Grant cleared things at the Chronicle on Saurday I still had to move some more around on Sunday.

Due to all that snow the concensus was to stay in Dodgeville for Saturday morning breakfast. Also, some of the guys said they still had to take care of their sidewalks by their houses! Dave Stone did make the trip from Klevenville. As soon as he got to the main highway, which is only a few miles, he said the roads were great. He met Bob, Terry, Tom, Potsie (back among the living) and me at Cafe by Country Kitchen in Dodgeville. We arrived at just after 7:00 and we were the only ones in there for a few minutes. We waited for Dave, but then when we ordered and got our food. Dave was the first one finished! Amy Jo (who I call Jo Jo so I get at least part of her name right) was our waitress. It’s always a good experience when we have her! We shared a few jokes with her and had some bantering back and forth! Owner Craig (Dougherty) came out of the kitchen and sat down to talk with us a while too. He hadn’t done that for at least a year, being too busy back there! Several of the guys said now they were set with food until supper! People were starting to come in about the time we were leaving.

At one table there was a youngster having a birthday, so the staff came to his table and sang to him!

Sunday’s snow and wind may’ve kept people from going to the Dodger Bowl for the Lions Club’s Community Free Breakfast. We had a lot left over. But we will still be sending a fair amount of money (donated proceeds) to the Iowa County Food Pantry.
