Harrington, Eileen Zwettler

Eileen Zwettler Harrington, age 101, entered eternal life Saturday, February 15, 2025.  Remarkably, it is the same day, date and approximate time as her husband, Jack, in 1992. She was born June 20, 1923 to Joseph and Mary (Bergen) Zwettler in Pine Bluff, WI.  Eileen was the youngest of ten children and often remarked that she was rather spoiled and quite a tomboy. She graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1941 having been very involved in many activities/clubs and especially proud of her four years of cheerleading.

When the United States became involved in WWII, Eileen worked as an inspector of walkie-talkies at the "R and R" war plant near Madison. In 1943, Eileen traveled to Indianapolis, IN following a girlfriend's suggestion and applied for and accepted a job at Curtis Wright airplane factory. The company sent her to the school for International Business Machines. Eileen was called home to care for her mother a few months later and coincidentally met Jack Harrington. They were married on November 30, 1946. They farmed on the family farm and were blessed with six children. In 1979, they sold the farms to sons, Steve and Tim, forming the partnership Harrington Bros. Eileen was constantly involved in hobbies but wanted something more rewarding and became employed at Greenway Manor, Spring Green for several years.  Eileen and Jack built a home between the two farms in 1977 and it is where she resided until her death.

Eileen was an avid Packer, Badger and Brewer fan. She played a mean game of Euchre and was very competitive!  She was a "die hard" Democrat watching C-SPAN following proposed bills and noting how each senator or representative voted.

Eileen is survived by her six children: Mary Armstrong-Sauk City, Steve (Linda)Harrington- Arena, Nancy (Dick) Harker – Mineral Point, Tim (Joannie) Harrington – Arena, Jane (Paul) Hess – Edgar, Dr Joan Harrington (Dr Scott Kjar) – Platteville; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many loving nieces/nephews; other family members and many dear friends.

Eileen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, four brothers- Leo, John, Bernard, and Ray; five sisters- Isabel, Grace, Serene, Helen, and Marie; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
