Writer’s opinion of abortion
Dear Editor,
In one of the first campaign television ads for the open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court is a 30-second spot in support of Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford. She is running against Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Brad Schimel.
In the ad Judge Crawford says, "For me, being a Judge is really pretty simple. There's right and there's wrong. And I'll always do the right thing for Wisconsin." Just prior to hearing from Judge Crawford the ad informs us that Judge Crawford was a "leader who fought for abortion rights".
In the United States Declaration of Independence. we read about a "Creator" and "Laws of Nature and of Nature's God". We read about "truths" and certain "unalienable Rights" with the first being "Life". Government, be it at the federal, state, or local level, whether it be the executive, legislative, or judicial branches of government, has a duty and responsibility to defend and protect human life, not to enact laws to destroy it.
How can we even talk about "Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness", when Life, the most important, is denied.
Judge Crawford, like all of us when we take our final breath, will face the Supreme Judge in Jesus Christ. HE will have the last word whether we have done what is right and good or wrong and evil. There will be no second chances. There will be no Court of Appeals.
In the gospel of Mark (10, 17 - 19), we read about the rich man who asked Jesus "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus replied, "You know the commandments: You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness, you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother."
But of course, in a culture, like ours, that has forsaken God's law, it is no surprise that we have judges, politicians, and other cultural elites who support the killing of innocent children in the womb. A culture that for the last sixty to seventy years has lost its moral compass that tragically, has misled far too many of "We the People" into believing their falsehoods.
Jesus is "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Mark 14, 6) not us.
