Susan Neldeen Vincent (nee Richards) of Cordova, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Her family was at her side. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 10th at the First Baptist Church, Cordova, IL. A luncheon will immediately follow. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Linden Cemetery, Linden, Wisconsin. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cordova.
Susan was born on July 27, 1950, to Charles and Nelda Richards at the Dodgeville General Hospital in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. In 1968 she graduated from Iowa Grant High School in Linden, Wisconsin. She earned a B.S. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville in 1972. On August 12, 1972, she married Richard Vincent. Their union was blessed with two children: Laura Lynn in 1976 and Joshua Richard in 1983. In her youth Susan was active in 4 H and showed sheep at the county fair. With her father’s encouragement, she earned a pilot’s license when she was 22. She loved growing up on a farm and returned to Linden with her family frequently to visit family and friends.
Susan was a vital member of the First Baptist Church of Cordova serving at one time or another on every committee. At the time of her passing, she served as a Deacon and was Chairperson of Gleaners, as well as an active member of Home Extension. She never missed an activity of any of her five grandchildren, always coming prepared with snacks and goodies. She was known for her frequent deliveries of sweets, meals and sausage and cheese trays. She loved gardening and took great pride in her Hosta Garden. After 22 years as a paraprofessional in the Riverdale School District, Susan retired in 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Richard of Cordova, daughter Laura Vincent Arnold (Eric) of Port Byron, Joshua Vincent (Valerie) of Geneseo; grandchildren Claire and Celia Arnold and Vera, Trig and Ryker Vincent. Siblings Anne Campbell, Barbara Richards, Jean Baker (Mark), Rebecca Richards, and Christopher Richards (Janice) all of Linden, Wisconsin and many treasured nieces and nephews.
