Wallace, Shirley Jean

Shirley Jean Wallace, 86, of Mineral Point, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on November 3, 1938, to Mildred and Earl Holm.  Shirley lived her joyful young life in Madison, Wisconsin with her parents, aunts, uncle and friends nearby.  Shirley attended Madison West High School where she met the love of her life, Ronald ("Ron") Wallace.  Shirley and Ron were married on July 20, 1957.  Together, Shirley and Ron had three boys.  From their frequent trips to Rhinelander (eventually buying a cabin on Hodag lake), spending time at the farm, and working at their family businesses, they created many lasting memories and traditions as a family.  As the mom of three boys and wife to Ron for sixty-eight years, Shirley put up with plenty of mischief.  This led to many gray hairs.  Yet, she truly cherished every moment.  Her quick wit, boundless patience, and endless love shaped her family in ways they will always hold dear.

Shirley was generous, loyal, and kind.  She was also strong willed and spirited with a wonderful sense of humor.  Shirley was an avid Badger fan and looked forward to watching their games.  She was a dedicated member of her church where she found great joy in her faith and community.  Shirley especially loved spending time with her grandkids, great grandkids, and granddogs, and they felt the same.  They will miss their annual birthday calls, complete with her signature off-key but love-filled singing, a tradition that never failed to make them smile.

Shirley had an enormous heart and an entrepreneurial spirit.  These qualities made her an inspiring mentor and steadfast presence in the life of many "kids" that worked for them at their various businesses in the Mineral Point area.  Shirley and Ron began their A&W business in Mineral Point in 1967 and they then purchased a second A&W in New Glarus in 1972.  They also bought and ran the Redwood Restaurant starting in 1982 and added the Motel in 1983.  Shirley's lasting impact can be felt in the community even today.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Ron; Her three children, Mark (Tina) Wallace, Ken (Geralyn) Wallace, and Larry (Laurie dec.) Wallace, ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Shirley's passing is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply.  The family greatly appreciates your support during this difficult time.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation and service on Wed., Feb. 5 to honor Shirley.  These services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church located at 555 Commerce Street, Mineral Point, WI 53565.  The visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. with a service immediately to follow.
