Glarner Knights trip up Mineral Point

Nolan Julseth buried five three pointers, finished with 26 points and led New Glarus over Mineral Point,77-64, in non-conference play Monday.

Brent Weeden added 11 and Matt Roth 10 for the Glarner Knights.

Keaton Dempsey took game honors and led Mineral Point with 28 points. Drew Aschliman chipped in 18 to also reach double figures for the Pointers. 

“I thought we played very well at times,” first year coach Bret McGraw said.  'We were able to get to the lane like we wanted but just didn’t always finish. We moved the ball and shared it pretty well. We found the open guy but just needed a few more shots to fall.” 

McGraw was impressed with what  Dempsey and Aschliman gave to the Pointers.”

Keaton attacked the basket very well and Drew was able to score in a number of ways,” said McGraw.  “We need to find some balance to the scoring and find more contributions from other guys.”

McGraw was impressed with the Glarner Knights.

“Give New Glarus credit, they are a tough, physical team that made us pay when they found the open guy,” he said.  “Once they got ahead, we just weren't able to get enough stops to close the gap.”

The Pointers are getting things figured out as they move forward with the season.

“We're still in the process of getting used to filling new roles and figuring out which combinations work best together,” McGraw pointed out. “That said, I’m proud of how we competed for most of the game. I know we’ll bounce back stronger and be ready to improve before our next game.”

That next game is tonight at Riverdale.
