Cobb formerly of Highland, WI-Virgil M. Tomas, age 84, passed away on Sunday morning December 7, 2025, at his residence in Cobb. He was born on November 22, 1941, in Dodgeville the son of George and Catherine (Berg) Tomas. Virgil married Karen Day on December 8, 1962, and welcomed two daughters. In 1972, Virgil and Karen decided to go their separate ways.
Virgil graduated from Highland High School in 1960. Following graduation, he enlisted in the National Guard serving from 1960 until 1962 in the 32nd Division. He returned to farming and farmed outside of Highland and Cobb for several years. Virgil quit farming and worked various jobs throughout the area. He worked for the cheese factory outside of Highland, the meat processing plant in Montfort, Cobb Canning Factory, and then as a hired hand for numerous area farmers. Virgil also helped his brother with the tobacco harvest and butchering. He enjoyed bowling league in Mineral Point and Montfort along with going for rides through the countryside, deer hunting, and fishing. Virgil will be remembered for his dedication to his family and friends, along with his willingness to help others.
Virgil is survived by his two children; Virginia (Patrick) Minter and Teresa Tomas both of Highland, five grandchildren; Megan Minter, Jennifer Minter, Ryan (Tayla) Minter, Nicole (Travis) Gies, and Travis Tomas, and brother Norman Tomas of Edgerton along with several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife Karen Day, brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Barbara Tomas, and sister-in-law Linda Tomas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 13, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Highland with burial to follow in the Highland Public Cemetery in Highland with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Friday December 12, 2025, at the church and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday morning. Immediately following the committal service, the family invited everyone for food and fellowship at the Highland Fire Station.
