Parkos, Bert

Bert Parkos, age 85, of Mineral Point, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after a battling cancer this past year. His life was based on a dedication, generosity, and deep-rooted love for the community he loved to call home; he was such a proud Pointer and everywhere he traveled, he talked about what a special place Mineral Point was.

Born on October 5, 1939, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Bert was the son of Charles and Vivian Parkos. He graduated with the Mineral Point High School Class of 1957 and married the love of his life, Charlotte “Chuckie” Pascoe, on July 22, 1961. Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, and service.

Bert began his career with Wick Buildings in 1961, as a builder and truck driver. In 1985, he embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and opened B&C Liquor, later becoming the owner of the Midway Bar – both beloved community spots known for Bert’s signature one-liners. His work was never just business; it was about connection and creating a welcome spot for people to have a good time.

A true servant leader, Bert was as an alderman, County Board Representative, Fair Board Member  and Charter Member of the Mineral Point Lions Club for 43 years. His contributions were hands-on and heartfelt—cooking meals, building shelters, and stepping up when help was needed. He was always up for fun; trips to the casino, his time at the lake, helping a friend on the farm or making a ‘run’ for someone in need; Bert found joy in serving and connecting with people. His legacy is one of kindness, hard work, and helping others.

Bert is survived by his four children, Kelly Cody, Tracy (Rod) Meyers, Tom (Ernestine) Parkos, and Troy (Tammy) Parkos. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and he never missed a chance to spend time with them.

He is also survived by his siblings Patty Johnston, Shirley (Keith) Ayers, Trudy (Emerson) Gard, Roger (Nancy) Parkos and Linda (Gilbert) Bloom and brother-in-law Eugene "Buzz" (Ruthie) Pascoe; along with many nieces and nephews.

Bert was proceeded in death by his wife Chuckie; his parents, Charles and Vivian Parkos, siblings Nancy (John) Goldthorpe, Gary (Jenny) Parkos and Ronnie Parkos, mother and father in-law Forest and Marcella Pascoe, sister-in-law Joanne Hardy, brothers-in-law John Goldthorpe, Bracken Johnston and Melvin Hardy, and two very special sons-in-law Daniel Yager and Phil Cody.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Mineral Point. Pastor Lori McGranahan will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 until 11:50 a.m. at the church.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Mineral Point community and the many friends who made Bert’s life so special. Special appreciation goes to Agrace and the staff at Crest Ridge for their compassionate care.

Bert didn’t just live in Mineral Point—he loved it and it loved him back.
