Palzkill, Dorothy Anderson



Dorothy E. Palzkill, Age 94, of Mineral Point passed away on Saturday September 14th 2024 at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness. Dorothy was born June 9, 1930 in Madison, W. She was the only child of Franklin and Dagny (Rygh) Anderson. Dorothy married Michael Palzkill on July 29, 1961 and they raised their 3 children in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

Dorothy graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1948 and Wisconsin State College at Platteville in 1951, majoring in Education. She taught primary grades in Columbus, Edgerton, and Monona, and retired after 21 years of teaching at Mineral Point Elementary School in 1989. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering to support the Mineral Point community and spent many hours organizing, planning, and building relationships at the elementary school, public library, care center, and the information center at the Water Tower Park. She received the Main Street Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000. Dorothy was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and active in its women’s group. She was also a long-time member of the Iowa County Retired Educators and enjoyed their monthly luncheons and breakfasts. As a second generation Norwegian, Dorothy was always proud of her heritage and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren simple phrases in Norwegian.  She was also an avid "Pointer" and "Badger" fan.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father (Franklin Anderson), mother (Dagny Frontz), step-father (Willard “Buck” Frontz), and husband (Michael Palzkill). She leaves behind her son Michael Palzkill, daughter Patricia Johnson, son David Palzkill (Diane), grandchildren Katelyn Oellerich (Theron) and Jacob Johnson, and great-grandchildren Jack and Helena Oellerich, sister-in-law Janice Palzkill, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point.  Pastor Kate Kieckhafer will officiate. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 until 11:50 AM at the Hope Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center and Upland Hills Hospice for their loving care of Dorothy. Also thanks to all the Palzkill nieces and nephews, Rygh cousins, friends, and neighbors for their continued support and friendship.
