Afghanistan fault line
Dear Editor,
On August 26, 2021 an ISIS suicide bomber slipped into a frantic crowd at the Abbey Gate at the Kabul airport. Unlike the crowd, he was not interested in being evacuated. He detonated his bomb, killing 174 Afghanis and 13 American servicemen.
Was that tragic and disastrous? Yes.
Was the scene chaotic? Yes.
Was it all Joe Biden’s fault? No.
Would it all have been different If Donald Trump had been president? No.
Although,….I suppose it’s possible that Trump has some kinda superhuman powers; or a direct line to God. But I doubt it. In my experience, history often lands like a brick no matter who’s underneath.
Remember that America spent twenty years in Afghanistan. Remember that our nation’s longest war consumed the presidencies of George W. Bush, Barak Obama and Donald Trump. Remember the 1,989 servicemen and women who died there and the 20,713 wounded.
Joe Biden campaigned on getting out of Afghanistan and seven months after his inauguration we were out. That’s where the buck stopped.
Since the close of that war three years ago not another American soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.
