Along The Ad Routes

by Mike Reilly

I’m not really a FACEBOOK fan, but sometimes I scan it. Here’s something that I spotted that gives information and a statement that people should heed! “Clocks go back on November 3rd. I hope mine goes back to when people had Morals, Values, Loyalty, Appreciation and Respect.”

Saturday morning breakfast took us to the northeast (I got my north/south directions right this week!) to Boscobel. We really like going to Old 61 Diner on the north end of town. Lacie Rutherford is the owner and stands about 5’2”. She hustles around the kitchen like there was no tomorrow! She, and a helper, gets food out really fast and it’s very good! Lacie is a Boscobel native and graduated from Boscobel High School. Now she and her family live in Seneca, a 25 minute drive every day. The odd thing is that our waitress, Sophie, lives in Muscoda and the other waitress (who brought us coffee and took away some dishes) lives in Avoca. When I quizzed Lacie about “doesn’t anyone live in Boscobel” she thought for a minute and then said there is one of her workers that does. When we go places we like to get everyone’s history. Lacie came out of the kitchen and talked for several minutes, until she had to go cook some more, as we were leaving;. Bob, Terry, Tom and I all had omelettes while Dewey had a combo of eggs, sausage and hash browns. It’s about a 45 minute drive to Boscobel and it’s worth the trip!

This Saturday is the Dodgeville Annual “Trunk or Treat” that is held in the courthouse parking lot from 1-3 p.m. It’s hosted by In the Beginning Child Care. There’s food, games and fun for the entire family! Temperatures are predicted to be in the mid 60s!

Cousin Jeanette ws here for a week or so from Atlanta. It was a trip she and husband Jack had to make for a celebration of life for one of Jack’s sisters-in-law. I was able to get together with them and cousins Jeanne, Deb, Jeff and Cathy at Cafe by Country Kitchen in Dodgeville on Tuesday. I ate there Sunday and Monday too! Then Pat and I had supper at Bob’s Bitchin BBQ on Thursday. I had eaten there Wednesday too and then met them there for Friday linch. I guess I was doing everything in triplicate!

It was really great seeing a bunch of cousins last week. Even though several live in Dodgeville and another in Richland Center, I don’t get a chance to see them that often!

I made a quick run to several places on the Fall Art Tour Saturday. It’s always fun seeing all the people who host and the people who attend. The weather was beautiful all three days!

Volleyball and soccer playoffs began Tuesday with the next round on Thursday (today). Football playoffs begin Friday. Also, cross country teams will be looking to go to state after sectionals that are held Friday and Saturday. Good luck to all the area teams!

For that special day this week I’m jumping to Friday for a day that began in 1992 - “Make a Difference Day”. It's a day to encourage people to make a positive difference in their communities through volunteering, organizing charitable projects, or acts of kindness. Activities include volunteering at daycare centers, helping countries affected by natural disasters, and keeping your neighborhood clean Or you can just be nice to someone and help others in anyway you can!
