We urge a Yes vote

Dear Editor,

We are writing to encourage voters in the Dodgeville School District to vote yes on the ballot operating referendum question on November 5th.  We are both lifelong residents who graduated from Dodgeville High School.  Our two sons also graduated from Dodgeville High School.  Over the years our family benefited greatly from the dedicated administrators, educators, and taxpayers who ensured that we received a good education.

This is not the first time local citizens have been asked to do an extraordinarily unselfish act, which is to voluntarily raise property taxes to ensure that our kids are not shortchanged.  Not only did previous voters understand the benefits of education, they also understood how important schools are to the identity of our community.

The district’s leadership has been very open in communicating why the referendum is necessary.  Painful operating cuts have been made.  The good news is that even with the tax cost per thousand of assessed property value projected to rise, the resulting tax cost per thousand of assessed property value will still be less than it was in the year 2022 and the seven years before that.

We have an opportunity to make a difference like previous generations did before us.  If you believe in the power of education for our children and the importance of schools in our community, please vote yes on November 5th.  Let’s make that day “A Great Day to be a Dodger!”

Sincerely,

Terry and Penny Edwards
