Vote NO on this Referendum on November 5
Dear Editor,
Don’t be bamboozled into believing that the Constitutional Amendment referendum on the November 5 ballot is necessary. It is a nefarious scare tactic by the Republican controlled State legislature designed to further instill fear that immigrants can sabotage our elections. Not one single state allows non-citizens to vote in statewide elections. Further, there is no proposed legislation that would allow them to do so.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission has testified that only 4 alleged cases of election fraud related to citizenship have been noted in the past 10 years. There is no problem that this referendum is supposed to fix.
This referendum is pointless. The amendment proposes to change 1 word; “Every” United States citizen to “Only” United States citizens age 18 or older who is a resident of an election district in this state is a qualified elector in that district who may vote in an election for national, state or local office or at a statewide or local referendum.”
Vote NO on this referendum on November 5 to keep the current language in the constitution.
