Iowa County Non-Partisan Forums on Gerrymandering and Constitutional Amendment

Dear Editor,

I had the pleasure of attending the recent forums hosted by the Iowa County Election Education Team on October 6th, featuring Nick Ramos, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. The events in Mt. Horeb and Dodgeville were a breath of fresh air—informative, non-partisan, and focused on the integrity of our democracy.

Nick Ramos provided an insightful analysis of gerrymandering, explaining how it distorts fair representation, and he highlighted the risks of the proposed Wisconsin constitutional amendment on the November ballot. What struck me most was the fact that these forums were not driven by any partisan agenda. Instead, they were designed to inform the public about the structural issues that affect all voters, regardless of political affiliation.

Ramos’ message was clear: issues like gerrymandering and potential constitutional changes shouldn’t be viewed through a partisan lens, but rather as fundamental threats to the democratic process itself. His emphasis on fairness, transparency, and accountability resonated with everyone in attendance, and the non-partisan atmosphere allowed for thoughtful, open dialogue.

As we approach the November elections, I urge my fellow citizens to seek out information from a wide variety of sources and to engage with non-partisan events like this one. Protecting our democracy is a shared responsibility, and the Iowa County Election Education Team did an outstanding job fostering this kind of engagement. Kudos to them, and to Nick Ramos, for providing an educational forum that left a lasting impact on our community.

Sincerely,

Anthony Wood, Highland, WI
