River Ridge takes down Panthers in Six Rivers play
Iowa-Grant’s journey through the tough Six Rivers football conference received another look at a strong opponent when River Ridge went into cruise control Friday for a 55-16 win.
Gavin Hinderman ran nine times for 37 yards and Cole Schauff gained 30 yards on two tries.
Brock Hinderman ran in one touchdown from two yards out and then he Jack Whitaker for a nine yard score.
Both two-point tries were good, one a pass to Dawson Reid, the other to Landon Friesen.
The rest of the scoring was all Timbderwolvs.
Hinderman completed 18 passes for the Panthers. Friesen grabbed seven, Gavin Hindernan four, Owen Wyatt, Sam Lundell and Reid two and Whitaker one.
Playing in the Six Rivers is a learning process for the Panthers and their first year coach and he plans to have the team improve from it.
“The Six Rivers is a lot like the WIAC.” Link said. “We want to follow UW-Platteville's blueprint for success and care more about the process than any end results. The end results will show themselves with a little time. Pressing reset on a program isn't something that happens overnight.”
“I always say that football doesn't build character, it shows what your character is,” Link continued. “ Now that we know what kind of shape this team is truly in, what do we do with this information? Do we accept that we are where we are forever? Or do we want more for ourselves? That was the challenge this week.”
The Panthers will play Boscobel this week and it should be a competitive match-up.
‘I expect a hungry team that can put up points in a hurry,{“ Link said.. “They like to spread defenses out like we do. We've got to buckle down because we know that we are fighting for a playoff spot. I anticipate a great game for our Homecoming crowd.”
