Is the election really over?
by J. Patrick Reilly
The election is over but my email inbox must not have gotten the message. The only difference is that instead of asking for my vote, the new subject is how can we make as difficult as possible for the newly elected Donald Trump.
Like it or not, Donald Trump won the election and he won it handily. He will be in office for four more years.
Will we like his policies?
No doubt we may like some of them. No matter who is in office it is doubtful every policy will be favored. Of course, with Donald Trump things can change quickly and you have to be aware to catch up.
But we know that. We had him for four years and now we have him again. He has never wavered in his desire to lead the country.
The money spent in elections is overwhelming. We would like to see changes made to reduce the corrupting influence of money in politics. Placing limits on the length of time active campaigning and fundraising can occur would be a good start.
It is time to put a halt to bottomless campaign spending from people whose interests are more aligned with benefitting their bottom line than in leading our country forward.
