Dodgeville school board hears charter school update

The Dodgeville School Board received more information about a possible charter school component that would be added to the district.

The charter school would be aimed at students who are in a non-traditional learning setting.  There are students already involved in an existing program but they are spread out.  The charter school could attract students from outside the district seeking such a program which would help with open enrollment.

Amy Vesperman presented the information along with District Administrator Ryan Bohnsack.  She said a budget is being prepared and there is the possibility for a grant.

To obtain the grant a community survey is needed.  Bohnsack shared a sample with the board and discussed the timing of sending it out for feedback.  He said he doesn’t want it to be confused with any information about a referendum.

Focus of the charter school would be to help students requiring different learning needs.  Inclusion would be stressed along with learning life skills, finding people who would connect with a student to assist them with life skills.  There could also be assistance with performing tasks at a job...
