Orville R. James, age 99 of Dodgeville, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at CrestRidge Assisted Living. Orville was born on November 10, 1925, in Mineral Point to Earl and Dorothy (Carter) James. He farmed on the James Farm in Willow Springs Township until the age of 40 when he married the former Gretchen Grunenwald on July 24, 1965. In 1951 and 1952, he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan. The couple then lived in Phoenix, AZ where Orville worked in the machine shop of Sperry-Rand Corp. which became Honeywell. He retired in 1989.
Orville and Gretchen enjoyed touring the country in their motorhome and playing cards with the same group for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Dodgeville and the Mineral Point American Legion Post #170.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry (Margaret) James and Homer (Irene) James; and sister, Grace (Charles) Rolli.
He is survived by his wife, Gretchen; sister, Martha (Maury) McLean; 25 nieces and nephews; his dogs, Champion and Princess; as well as other relatives and friends.
