Along The Ad Routes
by Mike Reilly
Last Wednesday I met Dewey and Father Leffler at Bob’s Bitchin BBQ for lunch and when I walked in there was a table of young men dressed to the hilt in Norwegian costumes. I stopped to ask them what was going on and one of the guys spoke right up and fed me a line of bull.... about the group. I didn’t believe a word he said. I headed to the table where Dewey and Father Leffler were sitting and to our left was a table full of chaperones for the group and then behind us was this table of young women (see above) all decked out in outfits. This was the group called “The Stoughton High School Norwegian Dancers”. They had just performed at Boscobel High School and stopped at Bob’s on their way back to Stoughton. Dewey used his cell phone to take the above photo of the young girls. I said they were a lot better looking than the boys! One of the chaperones stopped to talk for a few minutes and two of the girls did too. Then the boy, who had given me a tough time, came back to the table to say goodbye and that it was nice meeting me - that was nice! It was a good experience meeting that group!

Saturday morning breakfast took us to the north to Anita’s in Spring Green. We were a little short staffed as Potsie had to head north and Dave had to head south to Chicago for his father’s 94th birthday. So, Bob, Terry, Tom and I met Dewey there around 8:00 a.m. The place wasn’t packed, but there was a decent crowd. Anita was our waitress with Arlena stopping with coffee a few times. Those two could handle the people pretty well. Three of us had omelettes (very good). I, of course being the pig I am, added hash browns. Tom had his eggs and bacon and Dewey oatmeal. We ran into several people we knew and I even spotted Soffet (owner) and was able to yell “Hi” while he had a split second inbetween him cooking!

Bob drove Saturday and since we were early we took the scenic route once we got to Spring Green. We did the same after leaving Anita’s that is on Highway 23 at the turn to Highway 60. Bob likes to give tours!

I see where the old Dodgeville State Bank building is being auctioned off on-line May 27-29. The building will be open for inspection May 17 from 11-2.

This Saturday is Dodgeville’s Prom and it’s also a Junior Varsity Quad Baseball Tournament. We will be playing starting at 8:30 a.m. at both Centennial Park and the High School Baseball field at the Middle School. There will be two games at each spot, probably ending around noon. First up will be Dodgeville vs Pecatonica at Centennial while Riverdale takes on Potosi at the Middle School. The winners will stay at Centennial while the losers will be at the Middle School for the second round. There will be concession stands at both fields! The weather looks favorable, but maybe a little cool!

Sunday, May 5, is the annual “Love Dodgeville” day where a lot of sprucing up around the city will take place through the efforts of many individuals, including several service groups. Again, it may be a little cool, but there shouldn’t be any rain so the workers should be able to finish their outside projects!

Here’s something I didn’t know. There is a “National Lemonade Day”. It’s this Sunday, May 5. Lemonade Day is a fun, experiential program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their very own business - a lemonade stand. Each year, in participating cities, youth have the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship. Maybe someone will have a Lemonade Stand for “Love Dodgeville” and will bring some to the workers around town!
