Beckett, Mary

Mary Beckett, age 66, of Ridgeway, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at UW Hospital following a massive heart attack.

Mary Theresa Carmody was born on March 13, 1958, in Dodgeville, WI. Mary attended and was a 1976 graduate from Barneveld High School. After graduation, Mary held several jobs, but was most proud and made a lasting impact at the Ridgeway Elementary School, where she worked many years as a teachers’ aide. She enjoyed planning holiday events and spent several hours ensuring that the Christmas programs and decorations were both special and meaningful.

Mary was married to Floyd Beckett and raised their boys, whom she was extremely proud of, Jacob (Kristin) and Arron in Ridgeway. Her true pride and joy were her granddaughters: Elliott Beckett, Ruby Beckett, and Astrid Brooks. A day with Grandma was always a special one filled with anything that Ruby’s imagination would allow. 

Mary loved to spend hours in her gardens and would produce the most beautiful flowers and vegetables. She carefully transplanted flowers to create flower beds that were nothing less than breathtaking. Mary was our family wedding decorator and was a caregiver to anyone who had a need. Mary will be very deeply missed by our family. 

Mary is survived by her mother, Agnes Sickels; children and grandchildren; her siblings Mike Carmody (Peggy), Pat Carmody (Vonee), Dennis Carmody, Jean Halverson (Vic Williams), Scott Carmody (Denise), Colleen Zimpel (Rick), John Carmody (Lisa), Ed Carmody (Jill) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.    

She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Sickels, and nephew, Cadens Carmody. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
