Hathaway, Joshua Lee

Joshua Lee Hathaway, 44, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 24, 2024. He was born on Aug. 13, 1979, to Larry and Rhonda (Lee) Hathaway. He grew up in the countryside of Barneveld right down the road from the home farm with his parents and brother, Lee Hathaway. Josh was a member of Barneveld Luteran Church.

Josh graduated in 1998 from Barneveld High School and went on to attend the Farm and Industry Short Course at UW-Madison. After completing a short course, he attended MATC to further his education in the trades. Josh had a passion for hunting, baseball, cattle, fishing, and the Arizona Cardinals.

Josh was always very persistent in his career. He worked for Stevens Construction Corporation in Madison, Wis., as a concrete foreman. Josh had been with the company for 16 years and had made many close friendships and connections throughout the industry.

Josh met his “Cheekers” at the baseball field while playing for the Ridgeway Cardinals in 2004. Josh and Alycia (Kirschbaum) married on Oct. 10, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Dodgeville, Wis., surrounded by family and friends.

In April 2005, Josh and Alycia had their first child, Evan (19). Josh and Evan shared a passion for 4-H and showing dairy cattle. Josh was always willing to help out, but Evan was convinced he knew how to do a topline better than he did (surprise, he didn’t). Next, in February 2011, Elliot (13) was born. Elliot inherited Josh’s competitive drive, love for fishing, hunting, football, and baseball. Josh and Elliot had spent years traveling on the road together, making memories in batting cages and in dugouts. Although he had many hobbies, Josh’s favorite was helping coach Elliot and his teammates for the Eagles and the Rebels. Finally, Emma (9) was born in July 2014. Emma was Josh’s little girl, wrapped around his finger. He was always her number one fan at gymnastics, softball, and volleyball. But what they had the most fun doing was sitting at home and binge-watching Chicago P.D.

Josh is survived by Alycia and their children Evan, Elliot and Emma. Josh is further survived by his parents; grandfather, Robert Hathaway; brother, Lee (children, Kylee and Blake); mother and father-in-law, Janet and Kevin Kirschbaum; and sister-in-law, Chelsea (Jon) Olday (children Burkley, Haddie, Gordon, June and Jonny); along with other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vivian and Beverly Lee and Mary Hathaway; and cousins, Steven Matteson and Jeff Jensen.

A funeral service will be held at BARNEVELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 505 Swiss Lane, Barneveld, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.

We would like to thank the Iowa Sheriff’s Dept and team and the Barneveld Fire Department for their assistance. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
