William "Bill" Aide, aged 84 of Highland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Bill was born on February 25, 1940, to Jack and Edna (Edwards) Aide. Bill grew up on a dairy farm and worked hard all of his life. One of his first jobs was picking up raw milk in milk cans to deliver to a cheese factory. He worked for a cheesemaker and could eat as many cheese curds as he wanted. He loved that job and especially the cheese curds.
After high school, Bill entered the Army on the buddy system with his friends Everett Beckius, Delbert Grimm, and Cletus Michek. They were stationed in Germany for 2 years. Upon their return Bill was stationed at Camp Breckenridge in Kentucky. On a beautiful day in June, he and some friends went to Audubon State Park in Kentucky for a swim where Bill met the love of his life, Janet Sue Dimmett. The two married 6 months later and moved to Wisconsin. For 62 ½ years they built a legacy of love and partnership for us to all admire. When they sold the cows in 1986, Bill went to work at Lands' End. He and his coworkers enjoyed playing euchre and knew exactly how much time they could play on each break and lunch before heading back to work. Bill was an extremely tough man. He survived multiple heart attacks, bypass surgeries, stents, leukemia, a stroke, vascular dementia, and a run in with a bull.
Bill and Janet loved taking trips and traveled all over the US and abroad, spending many visits with family in Indiana and Florida. They have many friends from all over, including card club, gambling bus groups and church. They loved being snowbirds and their snowbird community of friends, even being crowned Senior Prom King and Queen one year.
Together they raised four great kids: Keith (Chris) of Highland, Kevin (Laurie) of Platteville, Becky (Kevin) Stanek of Highland, and Laurie (Scott) Montague of Dodgeville. 10 grandkids blessed the family: Richard Aide, Rachel Wolfe, Jennifer Herrera, Shawnee Aide, Megan Hartmann, Michael Stanek, Miranda Stanek, Mallory Stanek, Grace Montague and Austin Montague. 19 great grandchildren have also blessed the family. Bill loved to see his great big family all together and was always proud of what he and Janet started.
He is further survived by his siblings Bonnie Leigh O'Flahrity, Rita (Dave)Dorota, and Ronnie (Dianne) Aide along with sister-in-law Melanie Dimmett as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his beloved cat C.B. who adored him and tolerates the rest of us.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Janet's parents, Ray and Jeanette Dimmett, brothers Clifford and Bob Aide, sister Donna Welsh, brothers-in-law Larry Dimmett, Jack O'Flahrity, Earl Welsh, and sister-in-law Margaret Aide.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 342 Grand St, Highland. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the time of service. Following the service, burial will take place at Highland Public Cemetery. The McGuire-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Highland is serving the family.
