Making sense out of no sense

by J. Patrick Reilly

It makes no sense.

Assassination attempts on prominent political figures take place in other countries, not America.

While those things happen in other countries on a regular basis, that heinous act is rare here.

But that changed this past week when a lone gunman shot at Presidential hopeful and former President Donald J. Trump at a campaign rally.  One of the shots is thought to have grazed Trump’s ear before Secret Service surrounded him and got him to safety.

A dark moment for America for sure.

Listening or watching news reports after the incident revealed that the idea of an attempt on Trump’s life was not unexpected.  One poll predicted that would happen and could happen again.

This is starting to be a sickness.  The gunman was killed and found to be a 20 year old with no real motive.  A bystander was killed by a stray bullet.

So, there is no real reason that can be found as to why this happened.

Sometimes we have to go back to square one to handle things like this.  We need to teach and I mean teach hard being kind to one another.  We need to teach respect as to if you do not share a person’s belief you deal with it without violence.  You can always just shake your head and walk away.

Kindness.  We need to teach our children that from day one.

Things like this may happen in different countries and cultures.  We can’t control that.

What we can control is what happens here and kindness is the answer.
