The 2-week Dodgeville Town Square kicked off last Sunday afternoon and will run until July 27 on East Merrimac that is blocked off between The Red Room and Bob’s Bitchin BBQ - There is something going on each day!

The crew was setting up the Town Square last Friday morning with the Dodgeville Fire Department stringing the lights that will light up the area each night when the fire siren went off. It was a call for a fire at the House on the Rock attraction between Dodgeville and Spring Green. Luckily everything was taken care of before it could spread very far. With the attraction basically being all connected, it could’ve been a real disaster!

This weekend, July 18-20, will be the annual “Our Town” celebration in Highland. There are activities gong on all three days with the biggest day on Sunday that includes their famous Chicken BBQ!

The following weekend will be “Linden Frolic Days” from Friday through Sunday. They feature a BBQ Smoke-off, plenty of ballgames, chicken BBQ, parade and more.

Saturday morning breakfast kept us very close to home. We headed to Jimmy’s Diner on the north side of Dodgeville. Terry and Tom were taking cars to the first Dodgeville “Cars and Coffee” on West Merrimac Street from 8-10 that was being held just outside of the 2 blocks from Cathryn’s Market to the Congregational Church. I had to eat in a hurry and take photos there and at the New Beginnings Grand Reopening on Quarry Street by the City Garage in Dodgeville (8:00). Bob and Dewey were also there eating! We were finished breakfast by 7:30 so we had plenty of time to talk some and then move on to our next stops.

The New Beginnings shop is really well stocked with FREE stuff for anyone. It’s open on Saturdays from 8-1 with a lot of people there to help you pick out things. They accept donations of product and $$$ donations too!

The “Cars and Coffee” was very successful, bringing a lot off exhibitors an onlookers to downtown Dodgeville. Cathryn’s Market was “swamped” the two hours or so people were around. I heard a lot of good comments about the event and saw some people I hadn’t seen in quite some time!. Thanks to John DeMuth Dan Paulson for spearheading things!

The old Dodgeville State Bank (Wells Fargo) Building was bought by Mike Hanna, owner of the “Mattress Store” on the north end of Dodgeville. Rumor has it he will have a mattress and maybe furniture store downstairs and make the upstairs into apartments - but that’s not confirmed yet!

I’m backing up one day to Wednesday (July 17) for my special day this week. It’s National Hot Dog Day. We serve Usingers All-Beef Hot Dogs, that are longer than the bun, at the Centennial Park Concession Stand. They are very good and filling! Hot dogs and sausages are consistently among the most ordered food items at Major League Baseball (MLB) stadiums. And in 2022, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) estimated MLB fans consumed 19.1 million hot dogs and nearly five million sausages at games this season. That’s why we want to serve only the best at games in Dodgeville from April until October during baseball season!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, that’s not me eating a hot dog in the above photo!
