Kandace "Kandy" Kay Keuler, age 71, of Mineral Point, passed away Saturday, January 20th, 2024, surrounded by her family at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI. Kandy was born on April 25, 1952, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dodgeville, the only child of the late Clifford Keuler and Mary Stephenson Keuler Grinnell. She attended Mineral Point schools, graduating in 1970, going on to attend and graduate from UW-Platteville. After graduation, she first married and moved to Tucson, AZ, where she resided for 4 years before parting ways and returning to Mineral Point. Upon her return, she reunited and married the love of her life, Richard Josh, at the United Church of Christ (UCC) in Mineral Point on July 26, 1984. Kandy and Richard welcomed their son, Michael, in 1987 and daughter, Carrie, in 1991.
Kandy was owner and president of Keuler Insurance Agency for over 40 years, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother as independent entrepreneurial women of their time. She was deeply engaged in her community, volunteering for various initiatives and groups including the water tower project, the Chamber of Commerce, the early theater and opera house restoration project, the tourism commission, and at Orchard Lawn. Kandy was a lifelong member of the UCC congregation, wearing many hats throughout the years. In whatever spare time she had, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, music, jewelry making, weaving, and spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed her children's sporting events, concerts, recitals, or performances, even taking the opportunity to serve on the related boards for these activities including the Theater of Ballet Arts. She was the reason that Mineral Point is able to boast that it has a professional dance studio and ballet company.
Kandy is survived by her husband, Richard; her children: Michael (Molly) Josh and Carrie (Cory) Ferguson; grandchildren: Rainer, Remy, and Rhys Josh and Enola and Henry Ferguson; sister: Caprice (Lee) Vanderkolk; step-sister: Marsha Zabecki; brother-in-law: Russ (Maureen) Josh; sisters-in-law: Barb Josh and Loretta Schmitt; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cherished grandparents: Walter and Mona Stephenson and Aaron and Mary Keuler; father-in-law: Donald Josh; mother-in-law: Kathryn Josh; brother-in-law: Gary Schmitt; and granddaughter: Madelyn Kay Ferguson.
A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at the Gorgen Funeral Home in Mineral Point. Burial will be in the Mifflin Cemetery at a later date. A Celebration of Kandy's Life will be held at a later date in the spring for the public. The website will be updated with this information when it becomes available.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Upland Hills Health Foundation, Mineral Point United Church of Christ, Mineral Point Rescue Squad, or Mineral Point Fire Department in Kandy's name.
The family would like to thank Pastor Sue Carr Stull and the emergency, hospital, and hospice staff at Upland Hills Health for their care and compassion of Kandy and her family.
