Buzzer beater keeps Dodgers from win at Brodhead

It wasn’t a win for the Dodgeville boys basketball team but if it was a prize fight they would have no doubt forced a split decision.

The Dodgers were down a bunch—18 points in fact—with under 10 minutes left in the non-conference game last Saturday at Brodhead and it appeared all the Cardinals had to do was wait for the final buzzer. But the last 10 minutes became interesting in a hurry.

The Dodgers started to see the three pointer go in. It was the game for that to happen as they drilled 13 for the day, 10 of those the last 10 minutes. Nine different players made three pointers.

Contributing from deep during the run were John McGraw who started it with a three pointer, Bryce Crubaugh-Lockard, Reilly Berg, Ben Haakenson, Noah Pittz and Jentry Olson. The result was a tie game with 1.7 seconds left to play.

The Cardinals took a time out to set up an out of bounds play under their basket which was created when the Dodgers knocked a long pass out of play. They ran a high pick that left Gunner Boegli alone, rolling down the lane and he put in the layup for a 67-65 win.

“Down 18 in the second half we fought hard to get back into it,” said coach Matt McGraw. ”We tied with two seconds to go and got beat on a buzzer beater. “I was very proud of the fight.”

Berg led the Dodgers with 16 points 10 in the second half.  Crubaugh-Lockard added 14, all off the bench and in the second half.

Cullen Walker led the Cardinals with 19 and Jaxon Dooley was next with 16.
