Along The Ad Routes

In his subscription renewal, Dodgeville graduate Rod Matz wrote: “Tell Pat he does a great job with the paper. I suppose I should also give a LITTLE  - very little - credit to Mike. I’m sure he does something to help. Have an Awsome Day, Rod Matz” Rod now lives in Hawarden, Iowa and had a professional photography business there.

We made the half hour trip to the southeast Saturday morning for breakfast at the Viking Cafe in Blanchardville. We were hoping they would have their signature cream puffs, but no luck! They had a French toast with bacon special that was the choice of  Bob, Terry and Dewey. I had my Denver omelette, an usual choice on Saturdays. Dave had his usual large bowl of oatmeal! We had Chayse Hirsch as our waitress, a young high school girl. We kept her running for coffee because she wasn’t used to our coffee needs as she waited on us for the first time. She did a great job! The usual table just inside the door greeted us as we came in, saying “there’s the Dodgeville guys - lookout now!”

Terry had an order to pick up at Ederer’s so that’s where the two of us headed just down the street. Bob and Dewey went up the street to an antique shop where they bought a few items!

This  Saturday is the Arena “Winter Kid’s Fisheree” held at Trader’s Bar & Grill just east of Spring Green. It’s usually an ice fishing contest out on the pond, but this year’s weather had forced it to be a “fish from the bank” event with regular poles and spinner bait. It is sponsored by the Arena “Wildlife Forever ATV Club”. I have been to it for several years now and this is the first one without ice that I can remember!!

With WIAA Regional Wrestling last weekend and seeding meeting for Girls Basketball last Sunday, that means the winter sports season is winding down. March Madness with be here before we know it! That also means that baseball/softball/track season is on the horizon. In fact, indoor track has already begun! It’s just a couple of weeks before Major League Baseball Spring Training games will be going too!

Good luck to the wrestlers who are advancing to the Sectional State Team Tournaments and those advancing to Sectional competition this weekend!

The Annual Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships will be here before you know it. They are held at Harris Park right here in Dodgeville on Saturday, April 20. We are really, really looking for people to compete and to volunteer so take a look at the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce website to be a part of it! We really do need people to sign-up in both spots, especially as a competitor as the VIP tickets that are sold and given out depend on the number of competitors!

I’m skipping Thursday as a Special Day as it’s too close to Valentine’s Day. Sunday is “Randon Acts of Kindness Day”, a day we probably should observe more often if not every day! Random Acts of Kindness Day is a day to celebrate and encourage random acts of kindness. "It's just a day to celebrate kindness and the whole pay it forward mentality".
