Gilmour, James

James Gilmour, age 88, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 2, 2024. Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents David and Mary Gilmour. He worked as a union lithographer in the Chicagoland area for over 35 years. He married the love of his life and other half, Geraldine, on July 17, 1976, combining their families and moving to Oak Park, IL. In 1996 he and Gerry moved to Dodgeville where they built their dream home.

Jim was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America for 10 years. After retirement, he and Gerry volunteered for the Red Cross as members of their disaster relief team. They responded to over 30 national disasters in 17 different states in addition to many local needs. In Dodgeville Jim and Gerry joined Grace Lutheran Church where Jim sang in the choir, served on the property committee and ushered. He was a member of the Dodgeville Kiwanis Club and worked part time at Lands’ End.

Days and weeks spent camping and attending sporting events with children in Illinois evolved into days and weeks spent with grandchildren at their country home in Wisconsin. Two of Jim’s passions in life were cooking and woodworking.

Jim is survived by his wife Gerry (47 years); his children James (Kim) Gilmour, Julie Gilmour, Robert Harpole, John Harpole, James (Kathi) Harpole, Lynda (John) Callahan, Audrey (Luigi) Marchesini; his grandchildren Andrew, Angela, James, Lauren, Amanda, Ryan, Samantha, John, Alessandro, Haleigh, Brian, Massimo, Camilla; 11 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Jim’s love for family, friends, strangers, and his devotion to his Lord was an example for us all. His kind heart and his zest for life will be with us always.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Dodgeville. Rev. Mark Williamson will officiate. Burial will be held in East Side Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Agrace Hospice Care or the American Red Cross.
