John S. Grosse, age 73, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at home with his family by his side after a short battle with lung cancer.
He was born on November 22, 1950 in Reedsburg, WI to the late Vernon and Alice Grosse. John shared the last 14 years of his life with his wife Donna in the house they built together. They had a wonderful life together and were soulmates. John graduated from La Follette High School in Madison, WI in 1968. John served in the Vietnam war. He worked at Car-X Tire & Auto in Madison for over 40 years, the majority as Manager. He worked part time at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts for the last five years.
John is survived by his wife, Donna Yonash-Grosse; his four children Steven (Amanda) Grosse, Rachel Grosse, Jamie Grosse, and Jason Grosse; his stepchildren Michelle Yonash, Kate (Mick) Butler, Alissa (Caleb) Yager, and Matthew Yonash; as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by four sisters Joan (Dale) Huston, Diane Gilbert, Kathleen Grosse, and Mary Smolarek, and a brother, Jeffrey Grosse.
John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Vernon and Alice Grosse and his brother Philip Grosse.
His interests were cars, home remodeling, playing guitar, music, and relaxing in his mancave with Donna and a few beers. He was an amazing man with a sense of humor that can never be matched. Losing him is such a great loss, but he will live on in all of our endless stories and memories.
At John’s request there will not be a formal service.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Upland Hills Health Hospice for their extremely compassionate support and care.
