Wasley, Carole B.

Carole B. Wasley, age 91 of Mineral Point passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

Carole was born in Mineral Point on January 5, 1933 in the home of Mrs. Earl Franks, a midwife. She was the daughter of Robert (Bob) and Lola (Stoner) Gant. She lived on the family farm with her parents in the Broad View area, east of Mineral Point. She was a true farm girl. She helped milk the cows by hand, looked forward to baby lambs in the spring, enjoyed helping her Grandmother with the baby chicks and spent long hours riding Pet, her favorite horse. She attended Broadview Church with her family and loved going to Sunday School.

She attended Mineral Point High School and graduated in 1950. She married Donald B. Wasley on March 17th, 1951 at the United Church of Christ where they then attended as a family. They were married for 55 years until Donnie’s death on January 17, 2006. While married, she worked at Burgess Battery for a few years and later Lands’ End. They lived on the John Temby farm in Mifflin, and later in Lost Grove. They rented their farm from Mrs. Ann Wearing until later buying it in 1966. Donnie and Carole farmed over 47 years on Shepherd Road. They enjoyed raising dairy, pigs, sheep and chickens. Their home was always open to family and friends with many good visits and meals shared. They enjoyed their 55 years of love together raising their four children- Cindy, Mark, Kevin and Kraig on the farm.

Carole was active with the 4-H Mifflin Toppers Club and the Mineral Point Wrestling Club where they enjoyed many highlights over the years. Music was always a special part of her life. She loved to dance. Don and Carole spent many years going to dances at the Point Chalet (above the J.E. Engles garage) and the Moonlight Gardens in Galena. They had special memories dancing to the Lawrence Welk Band at Mineral Point Lake at Soldier’s Park. Some of her happiest memories were that of going dancing. She still loved watching Lawrence Welk on TV each week.

Carole also loved to cook. Her pasty, pies and saffron will never be forgotten. She loved having a house full of people, especially family. She always wanted everyone to feel loved and welcome, as they held a special place in her heart. She and Donnie dearly loved them all.

Carole’s grandchildren were the love of her life. She loved to have them stay overnight on the farm. She loved spending time recording her family’s genealogy. She spent many hours recording births, marriages, deaths and information. She wrote of her memories and highlights of her life spent on the various farms with her family including her grandchildren, and more recently, her great grandchildren. She made 27 books of her family history, giving one to each family member to enjoy. She also had a special bond with her nieces and nephews who spent time on the farm with them. Carole enjoyed her Lost Grove neighbors and many friends. Time with them generally included plenty of stories, laughs and card games.

Carole is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Paul) Prohaska, sons Mark (Sharon) Wasley, Kraig (Brenda) Wasley and her son, Kevin Wasley, who passed away on December 9, 2021. She is also survived by her special grandchildren Heidi (Prohaska) Rux, Heather (Prohaska) Ruf, Dennis Wasley, Sarah (Wasley) Corey, Jeff Wasley, Rob Wasley, Jennifer (Wasley) Riley, Jackie (Wasley) Mootz, Joan Wasley, Sierra (Wasley) Eggers, Mariah (Wasley) Whalen and 29 great grandchildren.
