Borchert, Ronald (Ron) Dean

Ronald (Ron) Dean Borchert, age 85, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 7, 2024.  Ron was born in Madison on February 17, 1939 to Carl Borchert and Helen (Annen) Borchert.  He grew up on a farm in Fitchburg on Borchert Road.  He attended Paoli and Verona schools and joined the US Army in 1957 where he was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany.  He served his country until 1962.  On October 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to Agnes Zimmerman of Blanchardville.

Ron worked in Madison at Sub-Zero before joining his brother Robert on his farm in Mt. Horeb.  He and Agnes bought their own farm in Blanchardville.  After four years of farming they moved to Dodgeville in 1972, where they owned and operated the Dodge Corners Cheese and Liquor Store (Halfway House) until the Highway 151 expansion in the early 2000’s.

Ron had started driving semi a few years after buying the store to supplement their income and provide a better life for his family.  He started at Caradco in Dubuque, Iowa hauling doors and windows and eventually became an owner/operator hauling for Brisk Transportation.  His travels took him to the east and west coasts.  He unsuccessfully retired several times, but would pick up trips and continue a job he enjoyed.

Later, during retirement, he and Aggie would go to the local casinos here and there. They helped care for their first grandchild and would visit family and friends.  They also enjoyed their trips to Sam’s Club and later Costco.  Ron enjoyed his garden, mowing the lawn and feeding the birds.  He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and old westerns.

Although imposing at six foot two, Ron was a gentle giant.  He was kind and quiet, with a great sense of humor.  He had a strong work ethic, which started with him milking cows by hand on the farm as a boy and continued throughout his life.

He will be missed by his wife Agnes of 61 years; children, Lori Borchert of Milwaukee, Jeff (Sarah Dolphin) Borchert of Verona and Todd (Tracy Mast) Borchert of Verona;  four grandchildren, Devin and Liliana Borchert, Audry and Elysia Borchert, all of Verona, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews (who will miss Uncle Ronnie) and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helen, brother Robert Borchert and sisters Delores Borchert, Janice Borchert, Arlene “Patsy” Larson and Lois Wagner.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in Verona, WI.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Upland Hills Health Hospice for your compassion and care of Ron.
