Davis, Lee “Bear” T.

Lee “Bear” T. Davis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Edenbrook in Platteville. He was born in Mineral Point on July 10, 1936; the son of Owen and Hazel (Thomas) Davis.  On December 30, 1953, Bear was united in marriage to his first wife and mother of his children, Gloria Wilkinson. They shared over 30 years together before her passing in 1986. He was then married to Bonnie Palan on March 18, 1988. Bonnie preceded him in death in 2009.

Bear was a graduate of Livingston High School. Shortly after graduating high school, he went on to work at John Deere in Dubuque. He dedicated 30 years to the company before retiring. Having retired at the young age of 50 from John Deere, Bear’s life didn’t slow down. He and Bonnie ran the bar, Bon’s Place, in Livingston for about 10 years before they sold and moved out to the farm in rural Livingston. Bear also spent many years driving for the Amish community, a role he cherished and continued well into his 80’s. Bear was a dedicated member of the Livingston Community. He was a part of the Elks Lodge – Platteville where he played Santa Claus for many years. He served on the Livingston Fire Department, was a member of the Livingston United Methodist Church, and he was also a member of the Wisconsin Tavern League.

In his younger years, Bear enjoyed traveling the country and camping. He and his family spent many summers camping at the Double K-D Ranch in Baraboo, where he even played the role of Kenny Rogers for his friends and family.  Bear joined his friends for cards at Ally Oops, opening the bar for the players early every morning.  Although Bear suffered such tremendous losses in his life, he never let the bad days win. He lived and died by his motto of “Never Get Excited”. This was a life lesson he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Bear’s charming personality, great sense of humor, and quiet yet strong presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bear is survived by his children: Rick (Laurie) Davis, Rod (Lori Gratz) Davis, and Kathy (Patrick) Nechvatal; son in-law, Peter Pustina; eight grandchildren: Kelly Pustina, April (Luke) Hancock, Pamela (Matt) Ritchie, Linda (Dave) Friesen, Joni (Matt) Anderson, Samantha (Corey) White, Niles (Breana) Davis, and Nick Davis; 17 great grandchildren; special niece, Ann Williams; step son, Mark (Barbara) Palan; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria; second wife Bonnie; son Jimmie; daughter Joan; daughter Keri; sister, Jean (Wayne) Williams; and many other beloved family members.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday December 4, 2024, at the Livingston United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Rock Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, at the church. Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort is assisting the family.
