Learn more about wind power

Dear Editor,

Thank you to the voters of Mineral Point who showed that democracy can work. The Mineral Point town board chairman and both supervisors have been outvoted in the recall election. A huge thank you to the men that stepped up to run.

Congratulations to Bob Oberhauser as Town Chair, Tim Stracka as Supervisor 1 and Marc Williams as Supervisor 2. These men have their work cut out for them and will listen to constituents of the town. The Town of Mineral Point board can now address health and safety concerns regarding Pattern Energy's industrial wind turbine project. Local Health and Safety Wind Licensing Ordinances are not a waste of taxpayer's money.

66.0401(1m) states:

No political subdivision may place any restriction, either directly or in effect, on the installation or use of a solar energy system, as defined in s. 13.48 (2) (h) 1. g., or a wind energy system, unless the restriction satisfies one of the following conditions:

(a) Serves to preserve or protect the public health or safety."

The new board can now address an ordinance for the town.

The futures of Southwestern Wisconsin Families, Farms and Communities rest in our hands. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, August 15 @ 7 p.m. for an informational meeting to be held at the Belmont Convention Center 103 W Mound View Ave. Belmont, WI. Join us for fact-based presentations concerning the Uplands Wind power plant proposal. Help preserve and protect our rural legacies by learning more about local control, habitat priority and public health.

Companies doing business in our area should openly announce intentions before binding neighbors with long term contracts and free speech restrictions. Please attend this meeting to learn more regarding these topics. The Driftless Area will be an industrial wasteland if these companies continue to get their way. We need to stand up for our rights by attending meetings at all levels. Together, we can make a difference.
