It is the state’s turn

by J. Patrick Reilly

Tuesday noon the Dodgeville School Board held a special meeting to take care of a huge need.

The district found itself short in finances and needed money to stay in business so to speak.  The board voted to borrow $1.5 million for a short time until the state releases funds that in all intents and purposes belong to the district.

Noon is not a great time for a meeting that is held in public but in this case it could not be helped.  The district needed the money.

In reality the meeting should not have been necessary.  The state needs to come up with a better way to fund schools.  It should not be necessary to borrow short term and constantly go to the district taxpayers to raise taxes to provide quality education.

Once again let your assembly and senate representatives know it is time for them to step up and put more than $325 behind each student. The taxpayers are constantly stepping up.  It is now the state’s turn.
