Along The Ad Routes

Chronicle employees Heather Olson and I got a chance to meet “Poppy”, the dog that was featured on the front page of last week’s Chronicle, on Thursday.  Talk about a wonderful, loving dog! She was rescued by Lisa (Havlik) Edge and was given just a short time to live. Now, she’s doing pretty darn well, has gained weight and loves people. See above photo of Heather and me with Poppy!

Last Thursday there was a “special” get together at Dino’s in Dodgeville for good friend Dennis Kopps. He’s going through some health problems and is at Brookdale Senior Living in Madison. His sister and brother-in-law Cathy and Larry Alm brought him out to see some of his closest friends here. He was pretty pumped up in seeing so many people and visiting with them. Our Breakfast Bunch is hoping to make it to Madison soon and take him to breakfast!

Saturday morning breakfast kept us close to home, just at the north end of Dodgeville at Jimmy’s Diner. It was the Saturday of the month for the “Cars and Coffee” to be just outside of the Chronicle building on West Merrimac Street and in the Courthouse Parking Lot. I met Bob and Tom at the Chronicle building around 6:45 a.m. as they both left their vintage vehicles downtown to be on display so I gave them a ride to Jimmy’s - Bob’s T-Bird and Tom’s Corvette. Terry and Potsie both drove their vehicles (Camaro and Jeep) to Jimmy’s. Dewey was out of town as was Dave. There was a table of three Saturday regulars already inside when we went in and then another table of three regulars came in with one solo regular there by the time we were ready to leave, before the show started at 8:00. We did take a table that a good amount of the regulars regularly have! Jimmy came over to check on us and see how the food was!

The 2nd time around for “Cars and Coffee” seemed to attract more vehicles Saturday. There were several different ones and some repeats from last month - that’s a real plus. One came from Middleton and another from Portage. These were just two that I got a chance to talk with!

The Dodgeville Knights were knocked out of the Sunday Home Talent Playoffs, but are still in the hunt for the Night League championship. They beat Ashton last Thursday and play at Jefferson tonight (Thursday). Here’s wishing them good luck!

Next Thursday (22nd) is the  Open House for “Wood Violet” in the former House on the Rock Inn just north of Dodgeville from 4-7 p.m. Wood Violet is an addiction treatment facility. It may be worth the stop to check things out!

Bob Kratochwill has been heading up the Dodgeville Lions Club Antique Show & Flea Market for 32 years. They hold two each summer, one in June the other in August. Their August show is coming up fast as it is Sunday, August 25th inside Ley Pavilion at Harris Park, just on the northeast side of Dodgeville. It’s a great event where you can find some treasures, talk to the dealers to learn about a lot of things they sell, have a bite to eat (and piece of homemade pie) at the food stand and just talk to different people from all over. Many stop because they are passing by and see the “Burma Shave” signs on the highway!

Here’s another special day that I missed. Not only because it was yesterday, August 14! Romance Awareness Day is exactly six months away from Valentine's Day. This day is celebrated as a reminder to how importance quality time is to your relationship. Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most, because it’s all about showing how much you care. Setting aside 5-10 minutes each day to put together a small gift will surely put a smile on your partner’s face!

I was going to walk down to Bob’s Bitchin BBQ from the Chronicle office Saturday evening. When I went outside of the office a couple was getting into their vehicle just outside the office. I asked them if they’d been to Bob’s and they replied “an hour wait”! They asked if I could recommend another place nearby and I asked if they liked Mexican and pointed them to Corajello just down the street. They were really appreciative to run into me and they headed that way. It’s really good to have two good restaurants so close by in the downtown!
