On the morning of Aug. 8, 2024, at her home with Joe, her husband of 47 years, by her side, Sue was welcomed into heaven, at the age of 67, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Sue faced her journey with strength, grace and determination as she chose to live life in the presence and company of those she loved. She exemplified her “family first” mentality by embarking on a family trip to Ireland, even though she knew she was losing her battle with cancer, just two weeks prior to her passing. Family and travel were near and dear to Sue’s heart, and she wasn’t about to let her own condition interfere with a family trip. Sue will be remembered for her spirit, strength and determination for those blessed to know her our lives are richer.
Born to Roger and Donna (Herrington) Sunby, Sue was the first born of three children followed by brothers, David and Daniel. Sue attended Mount Horeb High School, Class of ’75, and furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison followed by pursuing a 23-year career in Dental Hygiene. Sue continued her education and earned her Master of Education in School Counseling in 2001. She dedicated her passion for helping others by serving as a school counselor in the Dodgeville School District for 18 years until her retirement. Never wanting to stop learning, Sue obtained a second Masters of Education in Administration alongside her daughter, Stacey, in 2011. Sue’s willingness to serve and support those around her in her professional and personal endeavors will be sorely missed. Sue had a passion for music and could often be found as the lead in the musical, singing at ceremonies for friends and family, and attending musical productions with friends.
Sue is survived by her loving husband and high school sweetheart of 47 years, Joseph Trainor; daughter, Stacey (Dan) Kuehn; son, Peter (Abbi) Trainor; grandchildren, Rachel, Erin and Brooke Kuehn, and Cullen and Jowie Trainor; and brother, David (Brenda) Sunby. Sue’s spirit will be met by her angel, infant son, Joey Trainor who passed shortly after birth. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Donna Sunby; brother, Dan Sunby; nephew, Jason Sunby; and in-laws, Daniel and Frances Trainor. Sue valued God, family and friends and will be greatly missed by those she left behind.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Burial will take place at St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family which will be used to establish a scholarship fund in the Mount Horeb and Dodgeville School Districts in Sue’ honor.
