Iowa-Grant school board take long look at future


Summary 

The Iowa-Grant School District Board of Education spent most of its  regular meeting for April Thursday looking at the needs of the future. 

Much of the discussion centered around long range planning and reviewing the financial picture as it is at present and what it looks like in the fuure.

Bleak financial picture

The administrative reports featured a presentation of the preliminary budget for the 2024-2025 school year by Business Manager Loras Winders. 

The new accounting software, which the district transitioned to last year, is more accurately recording revenues and expense sub accounts.. At this preliminary point, it appears that unless there is a successful referendum to exceed the state-imposed revenue limit, the district will be in a deficit for the upcoming fiscal year. 

I-G Superintendent Michael Shimshak recommended the preparation of two budgets, one with the assumption that a referendum would pass, and the second with no new revenue authority outside the caps....
