Along The Ad Routes

by Mike Reilly

We received a nice note from “old” friend Thom Anderson, who used to be a saple at Strong’s Bank here in Dodgeville. He and wife Roxanne now live in Eagle, Wisconsin. He said, “Pat, Mike and Chronicle Staff: Enclosed please find my check for renewal of your wonderful hometown and area newspaper. Everyone involved does such a good job of keeping us informed on all the area happenings and sports. Thank you and continued good health to you and your families.”

Thom got me my first credit card. I don’t know whether to thank him or hit him when I see him again!

The 11th Annual Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships is here - this Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. It will be held inside Ley Pavilion at Harris Park right here in Dodgeville. There are vendors, food booths, adult beverages and even a children’s corner where your youngsters can have a lot of fun! The Lions (which I am a member) make delicious deep fried cheese curds too!

*****

The Dodgeville Chamber owns this event, so please come and support it!

This Saturday is also the date for the annual Dodgeville City-Wide Garage Sales. There are maps placed at various businesses a few days prior to the 20th as well as our Facebook page!

Last Saturday’s breakfast saw Bob, Terry, Dewey, Tom, Potsie and me going to the south east just a little to Hollandale and Stroz Inn.

One reason we went there was because Dewey had to head to New Glarus for a grandson’s soccer match at 10:00. I had a baseball game scheduled for 11:00 at Centennial Park, but it was cancelled, so I really didn’t have to stay that close to home! We really like Stroz and it’s always good to see Jen, the owner. Her maiden name was Strozinsky, so that’s where the Stroz comes from! Our waitress was Sarah Dannenberg, who was our waitress the last time we were there. The omelettes that four of us had were huge. I may’ve been the only one that finished theirs - and I even had hash browns plus a lot of veggies in my omelette! Sarah kept our coffee cups filled too!

Congratulations on Brandon Wilhelm being hired as Dodgeville’s new Police Chief. He had been a Lieutenant in the force prior to his hiring. He will do a great job!

I felt badly about Shannon Jasica leaving the Police Chief post after about one year. Coming from Chicago maybe wasn’t as easy of a move as she and her husband expected!

It’s only fitting that I talk about today (Thursday) being “National Columnist Day” because her I am writing a column! One of these days I will check out just how long I have been writing it. I know it dates back into the 1980s! Here’s where “National Columnist Day” came from: “This celebration aims to honor the work of columnists. A columnist is a person who produces written works to be published in a series, generally offering commentary and opinions on current events or topics such as love, relationships, and careers. Columnists have different personalities, which is demonstrated in their written work. Some columnists lighten the mood or play a role with their flavor of humor or satire. Others provide different perspectives and hard facts based on solid research. Whatever their personality or style, each columnist’s hard work connects them to the people.”

Now, I don’t know just how much “love” advice I give in my column, but when I started it I wrote about Crubaugh, our beloved baker!
