Hassman, Maxine Elaine



Maxine Elaine Hassman, age 89, of Blue River went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 15, 2024. She was born on October 15, 1934, to Archie and Lillian (Studnicka) Novak of Highland, WI. She received Jesus Christ as her personal savior on November 20, 1945, while walking to Oak Dale Country School. She understood the truth of Romans 10:9: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Maxine graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1952 from Highland High School. She worked for PW Hennessey Lumberyard in Highland until her marriage to William Hassman on April 15, 1971. She joined him and worked beside him on their farm near Aplington, IA until their retirement. After retirement they moved to Parkersburg, IA. In 2008, after Bill’s death, she moved to Blue River to be near family. She was dearly loved by all who knew her.

Maxine is survived by her siblings: Shirley Draves and Lois Novak of Highland, Darvin (Judy) Novak of Cobb and Janis (Jim) Frazier of Blue River; stepchildren: Mavis Hassman of Ankeny, IA and Bonnie (Clarence) Swieter of Dumont, IA; 6 step-grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; and 3 step great, great grandchildren; along with 14 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, David, brother in-law, John Draves; and stepchildren, William Hassman Jr. and Lois (Donald) Uhlenhopp.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday April 19, 2024, at Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort. Burial will be in the Highland Public Cemetery.
