Marvel H. Nelson, age 86, of Hollandale, died on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Marvel was born February 1, 1938 in Perry township the son of Melvin and Hazel (Paulson) Nelson. He graduated from Barneveld High School in 1956. Marvel married Barbara Vivian on August 26, 1962 at her parents home. Marvel farmed all his life and purchased the family farm in 1971. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for 6 years. He served on the Hollandale Lutheran Church and the Perry Lutheran Church councils. He was the sexton for Hollandale and Long Valley Cemeteries and also served on the Board of Adjustment for Iowa County. Marvel loved woodworking, gardening and tinkering with anything.

Marvel is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbara, his sons; Allan (Sandra) Nelson of Barneveld, Duane "Dewey" Nelson of Kaufman, TX and Steven "Oscar" Nelson of South Wayne; his grandson James Tyler Nelson; his siblings Linda Walbeck, Laurette McMahan, Otis (Terry) Nelson, Darlene (Greg) Cober and Karen (Jim) Strycharske.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son James "Jim" Nelson, a daughter Diane Nelson and a brother Arnold Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at PERRY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1057 Highway 78, Daleyville, WI 53572. Pastor Kelli Fisher will officiate. Burial will be held in Perry Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Upland Hills Hospice or Perry Lutheran Church.
