Dr. Cathryn Isabel Kaiser, 74, of Mineral Point, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 4:30-6:30pm at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts in the Lind Pavilion in Mineral Point, WI. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.

Cathryn was born September 21, 1948 to Kenneth and Margaret (Cobb) Kaiser in Newark, New Jersey. She spent her childhood in Cranford, NJ and spent her summers in Lavalette, NJ at her family home on the shore. Cathy received her undergraduate degree at Elmira College in New York and then went on to medical school at George Washington University in Washington DC. After completing her residency in Madison, WI she became the first female physician in Iowa County when she opened her own practice, the Hollandale Clinic, in Hollandale, WI in 1980. Her practice grew and eventually expanded into Dodgeville, later becoming Family Practice Associates. She continued practicing at the clinics in Hollandale and Dodgeville until the end of her practice in 2012.

Cathy cared deeply about the holistic care of her patients and focused much of her work around expanding those efforts. Over the course of her career, Cathy started an all-volunteer hospice program and was an active member of Physicians for Social Responsibility through the 1980s. Later in her career, she served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for multiple local hospital systems including the Dodgeville Hospital; Community Connections Free Clinic in Dodgeville; and Dean Health Systems in Madison, WI. She continued her personal growth by earning additional board certifications in Integrative Medicine and built lasting relationships with her patients throughout her 32-year career.

Cathy was passionately committed to her surrounding community and was an active board member at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts; participated in various local political campaigns; was a long-time 4-H leader; read regularly to elementary school classrooms; and gave generously to a variety of global humanitarian and environmental organizations.

In her free time, Cathy traveled and embraced the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed hiking, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and being near the water. Her closest friends describe her as a seeker - always searching intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. She was a book-lover; enjoyed painting, the arts, cooking; and a member of the UCC Church in Mineral Point. Most dearly, she loved her family and regularly spent her time traveling across the country to visit with them. She will be remembered for her strength of spirit, courage, optimism, and unconditional love.

Cathryn is survived by her children Adam (Jessie Becker) May of Minneapolis, MN, and Dana (Doug) Albright of Coldwater, MI; her siblings Diane (Jeremy) Velkoff, Nancy (Dan) Heller, and JoAnn Gardner; her grandchildren Maggie, Katelyn, Kaiser, and Nora; her former spouse Gregg May; and mother-in-law Lucille May. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Margaret Kaiser, her cousin Alan Garratt, and father-in-law Paul May.
