Cards find a way to beat Ridge

When a team is not able to click on all cylinders consistently in a match there is a need to reach deeper and find a way.

Highland’s volleyball team did that Thursday and won 3-1 over a very pesky River Ridge squad in a Six Rivers West match-up.  Scores were 23-25, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-22.

“River Ridge is a very scrappy team and refuses to give up,” said Highland coach Maria Wineski.  “We had to take some different routes to score and beat them.”

“It was a hard win,” she added.  “We were a little flat and had to make our own excitement.”

“I am proud of the girls for coming out on top in a match with a tough opponent,” Wineski concluded.

Serving was a big part of the win as the Cardinals put down 17 aces with Kate Tarrell’s fourth ace ending the final set.

Bronwyn Halverson had another big performance for the Cardinals with 20 kills, six aces and 17 assists.

Anna Hennessey had 11 kills, three blocks and two aces.

Kate Tarrell put down seven kills with four aces and a block.

Sophie Tarrell had three kills and a pair of blocks.

Faith Yaun recorded three kills.

Kaitlyn Miller and Addison Bedward both had two kills.

Sumaryn Halverson had 22 assists and two aces.

Lillyana Michek had 31 digs and two aces.

Brinleigh Bollant added nine digs and an ace.
