Labor Day Fun in Highland

By Rebekkah Priebe

Labor Day weekend is always filled with fun times and family. In Highland this means the HIghland Fire Department is having their annual Labor Day picnic.

The weekend started with fire truck rides, a car show, and live music. The car show included old and new, with the highlight being the father son duo of Bob and Brandon Bomkamp. Their custom Broncos were on display “climbing” up the back of an old HIghland fire truck (see picture above). Other cars there included Fords, Chevys, Chrysler, Jeep, and AMC, and a John Deere tractor.

The day continued with people gathered around eating food and watching the Badger game. A TV was provided so that people could watch the game while enjoying their lunch. Lunch included fresh fried cheese curds and burgers. After the Badger game there was live music. Music was provided by Man with a Guitar. There was also a giant bouncy house for the kids.

Sunday was the highlight of the weekend with the Bar-B-Q Chicken dinner. Dinner was served starting at 11 a.m. People come from far and wide for this delicious tradition! Chicken was served until gone. Members of the Highland Lions Club helped with serving the feast as well. A good time was had by all who attended and ate!
